Innovation project MiRaDi completed
For two years, Ranobo collaborated on the MiRaDi project. An ambitious project that focused on developing a zero-waste production and product development process of nuts, seeds & dried fruits.

With support from Flanders Food & Agentschap Innoveren & Ondernemen, four partners joined forces in 2021 : Vives Hogeschool, Migino, Didess & Ranobo. Together, the partners investigated how to use the “waste” of nuts, kernels or dried fruits for new applications within each production step. For example: What if you treat the nut differently before roasting so that the quality of the residue increases after pressing into oil? And then what are possible applications of this residue?
In addition, the next link in product development was also examined: what does your target group need? What will make your customer spontaneously smile or what does he have absolutely no use for? And finally: how do you market this type of product? What does your commercial strategy consist of?
Both hatches were examined simultaneously and stakeholders were visualized and heard through co-creation techniques. All this to close the complete loop from nut to consumer with an eye on a zero waste and short chain strategy.
The result? A unique partnership that laid the building blocks for future proof products starting from nuts, dried fruits & kernels. Production processes were automated, artisanal techniques were passed on, new business models are ready to be tested on the market.
