For many centuries dates have been known to be a delicious natural sweet. They are even mentioned in the Bible. The tree – the date palm – grows in places such as Morocco and India and is a species that grows particularly well in very hot regions and deserts. Dates have always been a very valuable food in these places: they keep for a long time, have many high nutritional values and are easy to transport. Dates are used more and more in Western cuisines. Aside from being delicious on their own, these dried fruits can also be combined with cream cheeses, in quiches, with lamb or bacon or in chocolate cakes.
